‘A soundtrack to a film of your imagination…’

The first new album from The Angel Brothers for four years marks a return to their roots – with the original founding members – naturally the Angel brothers themselves, Keith and Dave Angel – working closely together on new compositions and recordings that encapsulate the band’s unique sound. The recent death of their father acted as a catalyst for the two brothers to start working together again after over a year’s respite from their hectic touring schedule. "We wanted to focus again on the music , making composition and recording a priority without constantly being on the road."
The album reflects cinematic influences such as fellow yorkshireman John Barry, Spaghetti western maestro Ennio Morricone and Carnivale composer Jeff Beal. Keith & Dave say that their approach to making the album has been to create.. ‘ a soundtrack to a film of your imagination’ . The Angel Brothers irresistible groove is, of course, still very much present.
The new album was recorded at Wavelength Studios in the brothers’ home town of Doncasater , South Yorkshire and Keith and Dave say that making this record has been an extremely enjoyable and satisfying experience. The album features contributions from Jim Lockey (bass) , Andy Seward – double bass/ electric bass; Indian vocalist Sandhya Sanjana and long –time associate Mick Humphrey ; Dave Formula also makes a cameo appearance appearance on keyboards and Jayne Cooper and Richard Masters adding atmospheric vocal textures to the record.
Strings feature very prominently in the new pieces and violins, viola and ‘cello were all played by Becki Driscoll and Nick Wyke. Keith Angel says - “Becki and Nick have made an outstanding contribution to this album. They have inspired us to experiment with the compositions and to get deeper inside the arrangements and recordings. The whole flavour of the new record is in no small part due to them”.
